Condition
The figure has several areas of restoration. The proper left arm has been extensively repaired including at the shoulder, forearm and all fingers. The proper right arm has been restored at the shoulder. Parts of the glazing were refreshed to succesfully conceil these restorations. There are some slight irregularities and minor inclusions visible on the surface, particularly around the proper right upper leg. There are some small areas of pitting to the glazing at the arms due to the difficulty of firing such a large piece of porcelain. There is some minor dirt to the surface consistent with age. Otherwise the condition of the corpus stable.

Catalogue Note
This is the only known Doccia polychrome porcelain figure inspired by Alessandro Algardi's famous bronze Cristo Vivo. Not only has the modeller employed a very similar anatomy and pose, the position of the head, the fluttering drapery and the overlapping feet all indicate that this sculpture was made with Algardi's prototype in mind.
Only two other great Doccia porcelain corpora are recorded in the literature: one in the parish church of Doccia after the model by Foggini frm around 1760; and another in the parish church of Collonnata (see L. Ginori-Lisci, op.cit.)
