based on imperial jade seals in the form of a pair of addorsed dragons, each powerfully cast with eyes bulging and nostrils flaring above curling whiskers and a jaw bearing sharp fangs, detailed with finely layered scales and striated flowing manes, the two scaly bodies tightly intertwined and crouching on their haunches, all above scrolling clouds, the exterior decorated overall in gilt, the sides pierced with nine holes and a slat on the interior for attachment, stand

Acquired in Paris between the 1970s and the early 90s.

Condition

The heads of the dragons are slightly warped and dented. There are a couple of cracks (0.8 and 0.3 cm) below one dragon's head. However, almost all of the gilt decoration has been well preserved with only very minor wear.
