Condition

In overall very good condition. Possibly later gilding, very nice colour. Clear marks under the base and on cover rim.

Catalogue Note

Benedikt Clausen was born in Nuremberg to a family of goldsmiths. He came to Gdansk (Danzig)  in 1672 where he worked for four years as a journeyman. He  became master in 1676 and worked with Gottfried Schmidt. The guild choose him as an alderman in 1690, 1695 and 1707. He died on 3 October 1709 leaving five sons, all trained as goldsmiths, of which three became masters. See catalogue note at Sothebys.com
