Catalogue Note

In recent years, after working with different materials including traditional textile bedcovers, metal and Plexiglas constructions, Morgök moved on to present more dramatic images within large box-shaped frames. Liberating his drastically distorted baroque and grotesque images from the borders of the canvas, he places them inside large wooden boxes, where two different images are exposed onto each other when lit up, giving his work a mystical depth unforeseen when the lights are off. Furthermore, his work exhibits a thoughtful dimension, re-creating a new reality that lies within anything that is seen on the surface.
