Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There are areas where the Plexiglas sealant is not flush against the works, most notably in four areas along the right edge of the 2nd image and along the top edge left of center and along the right edge of the 8th image. The 12th image with a 1/4 inch surface abrasion in the upper left quadrant. There are some scattered nicks and scratches on the artist's frames.

Catalogue Note

In 2001 the artist produced Dorian Gray, his first photographic series. In the work, Shonibare is depicted in the leading role. The artist used this story as a commentary on both contemporary and Victorian class and values.
