Catalogue Note
"At times only a few, at times only one perfected picture of a new type would be created before its conception was abandoned, not to be consolidated until the circle had turned around yet again. Such was the case with the most radical of the new 1981 pictures, Suite for the Good Humored Lady: its dense, opaque, and brilliant ground distinguishes it from the more atmospherically conceived works of this period. It probably seemed puzzling to the artist, as had been the case with other radical pictures." - John Elderfield (John Elderfield, Frankenthaler, New York, 1989, p. 334)
