Condition
The panel is flat and even. Ultraviolet light reveals areas of retouching throughout the sky (some of which have discoloured over time) and areas with clusters of strokes in the ice. There are a few strokes of retouching in the land, although this is less extensively retouched overall. Apart from some faint areas of thinning in the paint surface, the overall appearance of this work is good.
The catalogue illustration is overall accurate, however the sky and ice are bluer and less purple in reality.
Held in a decorative gilt wood and plaster Louis XV style frame.
