Condition
The canvas has not been lined. There is a faint stretcher mark parallel to the upper edge, and some lines of craquelure, notably in the female figure's neck and their costumes (just visible in the catalogue illustration). Ultraviolet light reveals some strokes of retouching primarily in her dress, the man's left thigh, in the purple pigments in the upper centre, and intermittently along the extreme edges addressing frame rubbing. Overall this work is in good condition and it is ready to hang.
Held in a decorative gilt frame with openwork mouldings around the edge.
The catalogue illustration is accurate, although the gentleman's suit is more turquoise in reality.
