Condition

The panel is flat and even. Ultraviolet light reveals a handful of minor spots of retouching in the background, notably in the centre near the right edge, and along the extreme upper edge addressing frame rubbing, however a thick opaque varnish obscures a clear reading of the surface. There are some spots of light frame rubbing at the extreme right and upper edges, and a c. 1cm indentation in the panel in the right of the extreme upper edge. As visible in the catalogue illustration, there are areas of paint shrinkage associated with the drying of the black pigments in the background, and there are some losses to elements of the thick impasto of the signature. The impasto overall is beautifully preserved, however, and overall this work is in good condition.Held in a decorative gilt frame with floral motifs, and a cream-painted inner accent. The catalogue illustration is overall accurate, however the flowers in the left half are a rich yellow rather than off-white
