Condition
The canvas has not been lined. There is a very faint stretcher mark visible under raking light. Under ultraviolet light the thick opaque varnish obscures a clear reading of the surface, however there is a thin line of retouching addressing an old surface scratch in the upper right in the background, a stroke of retouching in her fringe and in her forehead, and some further scattered spots. Overall this work is in good condition and would benefit from a surface clean to address the varnish which has yellowed with age.
Held in a decorative, rococo-style frame, with floral ornaments.
The catalogue illustration is overall accurate, however the pigments, notably the figure's skin tones and the golden background, are richer in reality.
