Condition
The canvas has not been lined. Ultraviolet light reveals no signs of retouching, and a thick varnish. The appearance of the work would be greatly improved with a surface clean to address the yellowed varnish. Apart from this and a 5cm faint vertical scratch near the centre of the lower edge, this work is overall in very good original condition.
Held in a decorative wooden frame, with faded gilding.
The catalogue illustration is overall accurate, however the blues in the water are richer, and the varnish in the sky somewhat yellower in reality.
