Condition
The canvas has not been lined. There is a faint stretcher mark parallel to the edges of the canvas, and there are a few tiny spots of paint flaking near the centre of the left edge, above the window. Ultraviolet light reveals signs of retouching, notably a circa 5 by 1.5cm area of restoration in the upper centre in the wall (patched on the reverse), a circa 5 by 2cm in the white canopy and wall of the building near the left edge (possibly addressing a repaired tear, though not patched on the reverse), to an area of restoration in the wall of the same building (with a circa 4 by 3.5cm patch on the reverse), and some other scattered fine lines and small spots. The general appearance of the painting is good and it is ready to hang.
Held in a decorative gilt frame, with some black-painted ornaments.
The work is somewhat more blue overall than in the catalogue illustration.
