Catalogue Note
In the exhibition at the Alpine Gallery, which opened on 25 May, 1934, ‘there were only half a dozen circus studies, one of which, a painting of a wagon trail reaching the crest of a hill, was bought by Ronald Horton for £20. It was one of his favourite pictures and reminded him of a horse-drawn wagon he had toured with on the rough roads of the Balkans with the Royal Italian Circus’.
