Catalogue Note

First edition, second issue with "Chaucer" and "Quin Savory." Greene's first thriller, first popular success and the basis for the film Orient Express. It also introduced readers to the author's seedy world of moral gray areas, the "Greeneland" he would come to depict in numerous contemporary locales, but with the idiosyncratic eye that is his alone.
