Catalogue Note

A remarkably similar glass inkwell is now in the Iran Bastan Museum, Tehran (inv. no. 6849) (illustrated in London 1976, Hayward Gallery exhibition catalogue, p.136, no.117). It was excavated at Siraf and can be dated to the tenth/eleventh century, suggesting an Iranian locus of manufacture and date for the present inkwell.
