- Bound book written on gazelle skin
Arabic manuscript on paper, 262 leaves, 17 lines to the page, written in miniature naskh script in black ink within cloud bands against a gold ground throughout, verses separated by simple gold roundels, surah headings in red in gold-ground panels, various illuminated floral sprays in the margins, 3 full double pages of illumination at the beginning composed of polychrome and gold interlacing flowers, lacquer binding with red doublures decorated with gold leafy fronds, boards with a fine interlace of scrolling arabesques
Condition
In good overall condition, illumination bright, spine repaired, as viewed.

Catalogue Note
The uncommon use of delicate, paper-thin vellum in Qur'an production of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries appears to have been restricted to only those of the highest calibre, as witnessed in the present example. Comparable manuscripts have been sold in these rooms 9 April 2008, lot 26; 28 April 1993, lot 109 and 15 October 1984, lot 281.
