A fine Kashan dish with stylised vegetal decoration and inscriptions, Persia, 13th Century

of shallow form with straight flaring walls on a high foot, painted in shades of cobalt blue and black under a transparent glaze, six black ribbon bands radiating outwards from the centre, each with a line of cursive script, the interstices with a stylised vegetal motif, the reverse decorated with a band of waterweed scrolls, old collector label to base 'P-38'

In good condition, intact, some irridescence, particularly to reverse, consistent with age, colours deep and glaze bright, minor abrasion to external rim with two very small chips, as viewed,

in niz nakardan-e to bar garden-e man

‘Oh you, whose will it is to hurt me for years and months,
Who are free from me and glad at my anguish,
You vowed [not to] break your promise again,
It is I who have caused this breach.’

negah-dar bada jahan afarin
be-har ja keh bashad khodavand-e in
‘izz baqa o shadi
