Description

the oval barrel finely carved with the legend of William Tell, the ivory handle carved as a trophy of weapons emerging from a coronet above an eagle-headed fish, the finial carved as one of the three founding fathers (Eidgenossen) of the Swiss Confederation, the silver base rim and lid chased wth masks and shields below clusters of fruits
Condition
extremely well-carved ivory and nicely chased silver, finial lacking tips of fingers and cracked on forehead, barrel is cracked in several places. Hinge of lid is loose, barrel appears to have shrunk slightly leaving a gap around top of base.
