- South German, circa 1890

- 44cm, 17 1/4 in high
the barrel carved in relief with an equestrian battle before castle walls, carved ivory horseback knight finial and handle, the silver mounts and lid chased with martial trophies and floral scrolls interrupted by four mask and key pattern supports at the base, gilt interior, apparently unmarked
Condition
generally very good condition although some crimping to light silver mounts along base rim and edges of lid and upper mounts; ivory with habitual joins and natural haircracks, filled split at back of handle, finial loose, portion of finial re-glued, knight's helmet lacking plume.
