Catalogue Note

The present commode is stamped OJ on the edge of the top drawer. It is possible that this stamp relates to Owen Jones who was a London cabinet maker who subscribed to Thomas Chippendale`s Director in 1754.  The design of this commode relates closely to a commode made for Paxton House by Chippendale and illustrated in Christopher Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 2 vols., vol. II, p. 117, pl. 206.
