Catalogue Note

Walter Frederick Cave was an architect with a successful practice which he established in London in 1889.  His few designs for furniture were complimented by work in metal, and also wallpaper and textiles, the latter often designed by his wife.  A piano, designed by Cave for Bechstein, was exhibited at the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society in 1893.

The present lot incorporates naturalistic Art Nouveau elements into the clear structural lines of the Arts & Crafts movement.
