Catalogue Note
Cette exceptionnelle paire d'ornements en alliage cuivreux, d'une infinie rareté, accompagnait un autre bracelet également caractérisé par son décor à longues pointes, aujourd'hui conservé dans les collections du musée Barbier-Mueller de Genève (inv. n° 1015-94, cf. Barbier-Mueller, 2009, p. 9, 63 et 120, n° 19). La notice publiée au catalogue de l'exposition précise à son sujet : "Bracelet à pointes. Nigeria ou Niger. XIe siècle (datation par C14). Les incrustations terreuses montrent qu'il s'agit à l'évidence d'une pièce de fouille. Il a été trouvé accompagné de deux bracelets en forme de manchette [présentés ici], garnis à l'extérieur et au centre de pointes semblables bien que moins longues. Aucun objet identique n'a jamais été découvert dans un site archéologique connu au Nigeria" (idem, p. 120).
