Executed in 1936 after Man Ray's legendary solarised photographic portrait of Dora Maar, Picasso's new muse and companion and an innovative photographer in her own right. Man Ray often used his photographic compositions as additional sources of inspiration. In the present drawing, one can observe Man Ray handling the dark contours around the outline of her face, representing the typical effect of photographic solarisation.
