Catalogue Note
Ce poteau sacré mbitoro représente un ancêtre défunt sculpté - de manière caractéristique - en creux. Tout comme la célèbre statue moai papa collectée par Pierre Loti en 1872 (cf. Sotheby's, Paris, 27 juin 2007, n° 72), cette œuvre figure sur de nombreux portraits d'André Breton réalisés dans son atelier du 42, rue Fontaine. Sous la base apparaissent deux anciens tampons, l'un à l'encre rouge et l'autre à l'encre bleue, non identifiables.
