Condition

Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. A crack to the neck of the head with inlaids – nearly visible in the catalogue illustration - and to the lid. Brown reddish patina with traces of red pigments.

Catalogue Note

Cette boîte à trésor wakauia provenant de la collection Jacob Epstein était destinée à conserver les ornements en néphrite et les plumes précieuses de l’oiseau huia parant la tête des chefs Maori. Chaque extrémité du réceptacle est sculptée d’une tête de tiki projetée en haut relief. L’ensemble est orné d’un très riche décor gravé fait de motifs curvilignes, ne marquant aucune rupture entre le réceptacle et son couvercle.
