« A Paris j'ai découvert Mondrian, Malévitch et tout l'esprit du Bauhaus, autant d'artistes qui étaient alors ignorés et méprisés. J'ai assimilé leurs expériences et à partir de ce moment mon art s'est développé de manière évolutive [...]. L'art abstrait restait alors comme une écriture nouvelle, limitée à elle-même qu'il fallait utiliser. Plutôt que de nier l'espace j'ai cherché à l'utiliser. Avec lui se posa le problème du temps, de la quatrième dimension. C'est ici que notre génération a fait un grand pas; nous avons vraiment utilisé la quatrième dimension comme élément plastique [...]. J'ai commencé par l'idée de la répétition d'un même élément, qui est la seul façon d'abolir la forme comme élément plastique et la surface de l'œuvre. En répétant à l'infini un petit élément, on passe insensiblement à l'universel.
