Description

  • An Egyptian Wood Ushabti of Rehu

  • Height 9 3/4 in. 24.8 cm.
with arms folded across his chest, and wearing a broad beaded collar and striped tripartite wig, the inserted beard missing, the heavily damaged face with large almond-shaped eyes and long black-painted eyebrows and cosmetic lines, the six lines of inscription carved in sunk relief.

Provenance

acquired by the present owner in the late 1950s/early 1960s from a nephew or grand-nephew of Theodore Davis

Condition

As shown and described; in addition note wear to painted collar and wig; minor abrasions, nicks, and checks in the wood; front of feet missing. A small flaw in the wood below the back of the wig seems to have traces of ancient fill.
