Description

  • A Roman Marble Janiform Herm Bust
  • Marble
  • Height 12 in. 30.5 cm.
carved on one side with the bust of a philosopher with short beard, moustache, slightly aquiline nose, arched eyebrows, furrowed brow, and balding pate, and on the other side with the bust of a youth with straight nose and hair arranged above the forehead in a double row of circular curls, each wearing a fillet, chiton, and himation draped over the shoulders.

Condition

Crowns of heads missing, large chip on end of one fillet, tip of nose and one nostril restored on bearded head, minor nicks and abrasions.
