Description
- An Attic Black-Figured Column Krater
- Terracotta
- Height 12 1/4 in. 31.1 cm.
with stepped foot, decorated on one side with a departing warrior in a quadriga and attendant warriors holding shields, and on the reverse with a figure of Dionysos holding a drinking horn and flanked by four satyrs, rays above the stepped foot, vines leaves on the side of the panels, tongues below the neck, a frieze of animals on top of the rim, a palmette on each handle plate, and two rows of vine leaves on the exterior of the rim, the details in added red and white.

Condition
Repaired from large and smaller fragments, with some restorations along the break lines, a few restored patches and one larger patch on the neck of side B. The main painted scenes are little affected by the breaks and restoration. The rim has some larger restored areas which affect the animal frieze. The surface is pitted in areas which can be seen in the photos. The added white and red pigment is worn off in places.
