The back, chamfered, and with two small pieces of white homespun nailed into the back.

Based on the costume of the sitter and the paint decorated fancy chair in which she is posed, the portrait was executed relatively early in Arnold's career – first starting out as a professional portrait painter, working in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
