Retains a dry untouched surface. Chair marked II.  Label on inside of rear seat rail inscribed: Chippendale walnut NJ or Penna side chair with shell carving on crest rail and knees, Pas front feet. Cresting ends in volutes, scalloped apron. Very fine example of its type. / Purchase Dec. ? prob prior to 1930 for Xmas present for mother from Ruth W. Lee, Pittsford, N.Y. for $450.00 - Later reclaimed after mother's death. / Used by Mother as desk chair at Hyannis Port Now (since 1957) R.H.L.'s desk chair at Princeton. Has seat cover of light colored plain material.

Condition

Secondary wood is yellow pine. Label on inside of rear seat rail inscribed: Chippendale walnut NJ or Penna side chair with shell carving on crest rail and knees, Pas front feet.
