Catalogue Note
A circular mixed-metal wall plaque signed by Soligny and chased with a similar female nymph is illustrated by John Loring in Magnificent Tiffany Silver, 2001, p. 132, and is thought to be one of four allegorical plates designed by Soligny for the Paris Exposition of 1878. Loring also illustrates a silver, copper and niello-inlaid "Henry II" style plate depicting two cupids whispering into the ears of an exotic maiden. This "Henry II" plate, which was exhibited at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia and again at the 1878 Paris Exposition, is also thought to have been designed by Soligny.
