Catalogue Note
A book offered with the previous lot documents the making and icongraphy of the Ptarmigan Vases, and states, "Two miniatures were also made from the same mixed metal, of similar form, but ornamented only with a gold Ptarmigan in relief upon the side of the case. The base and rim of these small vases were treated with a basket pattern of silver and copper as appears in the illustration" (p. 38). Please see lot 52 for a complete history of the Ptarmigan Vases.
