Description

  • Height of the weathervane 27 1/2 in. by Width 48 in. by Depth 11 1/2 in.
The hollow form molded in the round with cast zinc horns, weathered to a natural patina; mounted on a rod.  Now in a black metal base. 

Provenance

Found on an estate in Rhinebeck, New York.

A virtually identical example is illustrated in American Antique Weathervanes, The Complete Illustrated Westervelt Catalogue of 1883, Dover Publications, Inc., New York, 1982, p. 4.

Condition

Numerous bullet holes; left ear slightly bent, some very minor splits along the seams; natural weathered surface and green patina.
