Description

  • Height 32 3/4 in. by Width 36 1/2 in. by Depth 20 1/4 in.; Case Width: 35 in.
Appears to retain its original brass hardware.  Inscribed  on the back board and underside of base Abby Liscombe.  Drawers numbered 1,2,3,4 in period graphite.

Condition

Secondary wood is chestnut and white pine; drawers numbered 1,2,3,4 in period graphite.

Catalogue Note

The presently offered chest of drawers relates to several serpentine front examples that have sold including The Robinson Family Chest of Drawers which was cataloged as " Possibly by John Goddard"  when sold at Christie's on January 21,2011 , Sale 2414, lot 93.  The above-mentioned chest according to family records descended from Thomas Robinson (1730-1817) of Newport, directly to the consignor.  Other related Chest of drawers in this group include one that was owned by Gary Sullivan in 2007 and illustrated in the Rhode island furniture Archive at the Yale University Archive, www.rifa.art.yale.edu  Object number RIF3431.
