painted with an unidentified coat of arms, later overpainted and altered, probably in Holland, in iron-red and black enamel, to depict a Chinaman holding a large banner inscribed with pseudo Chinese characters, the red and white checkered shield of the arms now forming the Chinaman's robe, all within a border of alternating oval and shaped cartouches depicting Chinese landscapes and trees

Condition

The stand has a 1 1/4 in. and 2 in. hairline crack to the rim. There is an area of restoration to one corner of the rim extending approximately 3 in. There is some wear to the enamels overall. The tureen - the gilding on the foliate pattern ground is entirely rubbed away and there is minor frits to the rabbit handles. Otherwise, in good condition. The cover - the gilt foliate pattern ground is rubbed away. There is some scratching to the later enamels. There is a chip to the edge of one leaf on the pomegranate knop and a small chip to the end of the pomegranate.
