Condition
The prints in this album, on warm-toned paper with a slight surface sheen, are in generally very good condition. The prints are mounted to linen and are unevenly trimmed. Very light soiling is visible on some of the prints.
The photographs are not affixed to the album leaves; rather, they are sandwiched between the album leaves and grey paper overmats.
The leather album is worn and rubbed overall. There are losses along the spine and at the corners.

Catalogue Note
The present lot is a rare documentation of a home designed by George Washington Maher for Arthur Burtis Leach and his wife, Maud Campbell Leach. The house was built in 1899 and located at 321 Scotland Road in South Orange, NJ. Leach was the business partner of John Farson, who had, two years prior, also commissioned Maher to design his house in Oak Park, Illinois. Their firm Farson, Leach & Co. had offices in Chicago, New York, Boston and Philadelphia. Farson’s house, named “Pleasant Home,” still stands in its original location as a house museum. The Leach House is comparatively unknown, having been raised sometime before 1945, with only the gardener’s cottage surviving. The present photograph album is the first documentation of this remarkable commisson to surface.
