Condition

Overall excellent condition, appearing to retain its original finish. What may not be readily apparent in the catalogue photograph is that this work is comprised of three separate pieces: a lid with finial, a central ring, and a bottom dish with three ball feet. The top two pieces represent the “rings” that we refer to in our cataloguing. The piece shows only minor wear to the exterior, and moderate wear to the interior with a few small losses to the nickel plating.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

The catalogue for the Naum Slutzky exhibition held in 1929 at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg, Germany contains the following line in its inventory list:  “kleine keksdose, kugelform, neusilber, mit 2 ringen.”  This translates to “small cookie jar, ball shape, nickel silver, with 2 rings.”  The present lot is the only known example of the model matching this description to appear on the market.
