Condition
Overall in very good condition. The sconce is presently not fitted with a light source. However, there is a small ΒΌ inch aperture at the back of the shade which suggests the sconce was originally fitted with a socket. The wood mount with surface scratches, edge wear and traces of paint on the back plate consistent with age and use. There is a small old loss with an associated 1-inch stress fracture at the bottom of the arm bracket just above the metal hardware which affixes the arm to the back plate. The six Kappa shell panels all appear original and undisturbed, with some scattered edge losses, surface soiling and discoloration consistent with age and use. The hand-hammered copper surfaces on the shade appear to retain their original rich patina throughout, with some surface soiling and a few small traces of old adhesive residue. All of the hardware suspending the shade appears original and undisturbed. With a replaced screw at the front of the shade. Lacking back plate screws. A wonderfully charming object that has descended in the family of Charles Rohlfs.
