Condition

STRUCTURE Original canvas. There is a stretcher bar mark along the top edge and a small protrusion near the centre of the left edge; otherwise the work appears in good overall condition. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT UV light reveals a few small spots of retouching to the nose of the gentleman and also to the cheek and brow of the woman. There are a few further small areas of retouching to the pew on the right edge and also a small area below the gentleman's hands, which appears to relate to a small repair patch on the reverse. FRAME Held in a gilt plaster frame. Please contact the department on 0207 293 5718 if you have any questions about the present work.
