Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined. There are some faint signs of craquelure across the work and a few spots of slightly discoloured retouchings about the masts in the upper left quadrant, only visible upon close inspection. There are also two or three very small pinprick sized specks of paint loss in isolated areas across the surface, the largest being to the mast near the centre of the picture. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT Under UV light there appear to be scattered areas of retouching across the surface, predominantly in the upper left quadrant. FRAME Held in a gilt plaster frame.
