The sheet is sound and not laid down.
The edges of the sheet are discoloured and there is a small loss along the centre of the right edge, which does not effect the composition and would not be visible once mounted. The surface is in generally excellent original condition.

Catalogue Note
This drawing was made for the head of the central figure in Poynter's first version of his famous painting The Cave of the Storm Nymphs painted in 1902 (Hermitage Museum in Virginia, with a larger version painted in 1903 in the collection of Lord Lloyd Webber). The date written on the study is problematic as it predates the painting by more than a decade and it is likely that it originally read 'Aug 10 01' and was therefore drawn in the summer of 1901.
