Condition
Illustration is quite accurate, even though the porphyry colour is more homogeneous in reality.
Very good condition, except expected and very slight chips under the lower edge of the base.
Few stains on the giltbronze lions.
Very decorative.

Le porphyre antique provenant des gisements du désert oriental égyptien fut à nouveau très en vogue et retravaillé à Rome aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles. Des artistes comme Righetti ou Valadier utilisèrent cette matière pour réaliser de nombreux objets précieux et décoratifs, recherchés par les adeptes du "Grand Tour".
