Illustration is too clear and does not convey the warm and elegant colours of satiné and amaranth.
Fine contrasted parquetry design.
Traces of old woodworm damages, especially on the sides.
Very tiny chips to the veneer on the left side lower edge.

Jean-Mathieu Chevallier, ébéniste reçu maître en 1743
Après avoir commencé sa carrière comme marchand de meubles rue de Grenelle, à « la Croix Chevallier », Jean Mathieu Chevallier, dit l'Aîné, obtint sa maîtrise en 1743. Il comptait notamment au sein de sa clientèle le duc de Talmont et la princesse de Bourbon-Condé qui lui confièrent l'ameublement de leurs résidences ; en 1745, il figura parmi les créanciers d'André-Charles II Boulle.
Sa production se caractérise par des placages floraux ou à motifs géométriques.
