Catalogue Note
Cette paire de fauteuils à dossier plat illustre une évolution dans la menuiserie en siège au début du XVIIIe siècle, où, l'entretoise disparait du piètement tandis que la console d'accotoir se situe encore à l'aplomb du pied avant.
Un dessin anonyme réalisé à Paris vers 1715 (reproduit ci-dessus) nous renseigne sur les variantes offertes tant sur le décor sculpté que sur les formes générales. Ce type de dessin permettait au "donneur de modèle" de présenter à sa clientèle différentes finitions ornementales avant de les soumettre au menuisier chargé de la réalisation des fauteuils.
