First edition, 4 parts in one volume, folio (450 x 310mm.), engraved architectural title, engraved Royal Achievement by Jodocus Hondius dated 1611, 3 printed divisional titles and woodcut Royal arms to each part, 67 double-page engraved general and county maps after Christopher Saxton, John Norden and others, bookplate of the Institution of Naval Architects, eighteenth-century calf, title and preliminaries restored and strengthened with slight loss at lower corner and edges, map of Norfolk cut-close on 2 sides (re-margined), small repaired tear in map of Cambridge (not affecting image), a few maps strengthened at lower centre-folds and margins, occasional spotting and soiling

Catalogue Note
The earliest published atlas of the entire British Isles which was designed as the topographical section of Speed's own The Historie of Great Britaine, compiled between about 1596 and 1610. Speed's atlas also contains the first comprehensive collection of English town plans, some the earliest of their kind, in the form of detailed insets on individual county maps.
