Catalogue Note

Nearly all the photographs depict stream trains built by the firm of Kitson & Co. of Leeds between 1880 and 1930 for railways in Britain and worldwide, including India, Chile, Egypt, Sudan, China, Brazil, Ceylon and Bolivia. The company, founded in 1835, built around 5,400 locomotives over a period of 101 years.
