Catalogue Note
Rare early photographs of Bangkok and group portraits by the first Siamese photographer. Four photographs are known images by Chit and it is very probable that the others are also by him. Two of the photographs form part of two different panoramas of Bangkok, taken by Chit during the reign of King Rama IV (1851-1868). Chit (1830-1891), a Siamese Christian, was taught photography by French missionaries and was appointed court photographer by both Rama IV and Rama V.
