Catalogue Note

Aaron Arrowsmith is considered the greatest cartographer of his period, specialising in wall maps, prepared to exacting standards, and frequently revised and improved. This is the rare first state of his fine wall map of the United States, issued from Charles Street, Soho Square, and marking the 'Tennassee Government'. A later state was used by Lewis and Clarke to plan their epic trans-continental expedition.
