Description
- indistinct fleur de lys mark in blue, Wilfrid Evill Collection Label
- Porcelain
- 16cm., 6½in. high, 24cm., 9½in. wide excluding handles
applied with vine root handles and trailing fruiting vine terminals, painted in Kakiemon style with colourful flowering plants outlined in black
Provenance
Purchased from Spero, July 1946, for £40.
Condition
The applied handles have some minor losses and fine cracks. The fine fruiting vine sprays no longer connect to the root handles, and on one of the handles there are small losses to the sprays and two restored leaves have been placed over the end of the handle on the right side to mask this fact. Minor rubbing to the gilding on the applied vines . A few fine scratches to enamels and glaze. There is some misfiring/fire-specking to the rim of the bowl. This deep bowl was probably intended as a serving tureen for soup and would originally have had a cover.
